Based on the screenplay by Frances Goodrich, Albert
Hackett, Jo Swerling & Frank Capra. From the short story by Philip Van Doren Stern.
Additional material by John Morgan.
It’s A Wonderful Life, starring James Stewart, is generally regarded as one of the finest and most
inspirational movies ever made and The Playhouse is delighted to present the full-length stage
version of this classic film in the run-up to Christmas. The play takes place in the fictional town
of Bedford Falls shortly after World War II and George Bailey, a man whose imminent suicide on
Christmas Eve gains the attention of his guardian angel who is sent to help him in his hour of
need. Much of the play is told through flashbacks spanning George’s entire life. Through
these flashbacks we see all the people whose lives have been touched by George and
the difference he has made to the community in which he lives.
